Thanks to all of my supporters and folks who voted for me in the 2013 election, I REALLY, REALLY appreciate your votes and many words of encouragement!!
My name is Dan Foster and I ran for Delegate in the 78th district of Chesapeake in the November 2013 general elections in Virginia. While I only received 4% of the vote (888 votes total), we did achieve what we set out to do. We gave the people a third choice instead of the same old Rep/Dem worn out shoe. We spread the word of the Libertarian party. We talked to hundreds and hundreds of people who had no idea what the Libertarian party stands for. Its a great feeling to tell someone about the Libertarian party and watch them when they realize that they have the same beliefs, they just didn't realize that they were actually Libertarians!
I am not a lawyer, I’ve never run for a political office before 2013, I have never been associated with any branch of our government, I am just a regular man who is sick and tired of the way our current government is being run. I no longer wanted to just sit around and complain. I wanted to get involved and hopefully make a difference. Even though we didn't win, the Libertarian party continues to grow, and I believe that sooner or later, the American people are going to wake up and realize what a mess our government has become, in fact, many already have!
Have you ever heard the term “government starts at the bottom” ? I recently learned that this is not only true, but super important. These smaller elections are instrumental in shaping the bigger part of our government as you go higher and higher on the political and governmental ladder.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a Republican or a Democrat, if you look at the past 50 or 60 years of our government, both parties have consistently voted to raise taxes, year, after year, after year. You just have to ask yourself, “how’s that workin’ out for ya?” “Are your taxes going down?” “Is your life getting better?” “Is our countries national deficit going down?” If you keep doing the same thing over and over again, you’re going to get the same results.
Politicians will always tell you what you want to hear to get your vote. “Read my lips, no new taxes!” They do this until they’re in office, then its time to pay back the big contributors to their parties election campaign …. then they often pay it back with the taxpayers money. Am I getting through to you yet?
In closing, if you are not registered to vote, please register so we all can help make a difference. If you, like so many people I’ve talked to, are truly sick of voting for the lesser of two evils, don’t! Remember, a vote for someone you truly believe in, is never a wasted vote. Now it’s your chance to do something, get involved, donate to the cause, volunteer, anything is better than continuing down the same road we've been on for too long
